Researchers are working hard on IPF (a lung disease where the lungs slowly scar and stiffen). This week the global database tracking IPF work reached 3,198 studies and over 1,000 clinical trials (real tests on real people). Most new papers are coming from Russia, international preprint servers, and China — meaning scientists worldwide are paying close attention to this disease.
An AI tested thousands of drug combinations to see which best protects lung capacity. The winner used 7 drugs together — including pamrevlumab (a drug that blocks a protein causing scarring) and inhaled FGF10 (a growth factor that helps repair lung tissue). The result was FVC (a measure of how much air your lungs can hold) staying at 96.2%. Healthy lungs sit around 100%, so 96.2% is very close to normal — a genuinely exciting number.
