This week, researchers added to a growing database of 1,824 IPF studies. A lot of work is happening around how lung cells repair themselves after damage โ€” think of it like scientists trying to figure out how to help the lungs patch their own holes. There is also exciting crossover research looking at what cancer and heart disease treatments might teach us about slowing down IPF scarring (when stiff scar tissue slowly replaces healthy lung tissue).

An AI system tested hundreds of drug combinations. The best result kept FVC (a measurement of how much air your lungs can hold and push out โ€” higher is better) at 93.6%. That is a strong number. It used seven different drugs together, including some that target inflammation and tissue stiffening. These are still computer simulations, not human trials yet, but they help scientists decide what to test next in real patients.
